If you really look around you, there is plenty to be thankful for... Family, friends, good health, nature's bounty, and the beauty that surrounds us every day. I am appreciative.

Despite our appreciation of the unseasonal summer rains of a week ago, and the promise of an El Nino this winter, we must still learn to live with the on-going drought. And in case you are of the belief that drought tolerant plants translate to "Brown is the New Green" here are a few plant options that are currently blooming which might change your perceptions... All images above were photographed in Southern California
during the summer and represent a mixture of native species, Mediterraneans, Australians, succulents and edibles - limiting the combinations only to each gardener's imagination. (More landscape photos can be seen at gardenscapestudio.com) The longest day of the year has come and gone, 15 hours and 6 minutes of sunshine... ...which I enjoyed by being outside until last light today after a very full weekend which began and ended in the garden. And so I share with you my impressionist interpretation
of a summer landscape which befits the "golden hour". Although this year's drought has ironically brought me more garden design projects than ever before, I still managed to finally put together my alternate web site GardenScape Studio where I've gathered all my "garden" art in one place. Maybe some day I'll actually post pictures of the gardens themselves...
Every year by the second week of March, our Wisteria
will have attained its exuberant peak - but this year it is ahead of schedule and almost done for the season. Its heady fragrance wafts from almost every corner of the garden - summoning me to return and be enthralled yet again, so that I will continue in my attempts at capturing a few visual memories to sustain me for the remainder of the year when the billowing purples have become engulfed by green. |

I spend a lot of time on the road and always have a camera with me - hoping to be ready when a serendipitous moment presents itself. Categories
