Mini Series Monday #12 - Getting By On Less

Despite our appreciation of the unseasonal summer rains
of a week ago, and the promise of an El Nino this winter,
we must still learn to live with the on-going drought.

And in case you are of the belief that drought tolerant plants
translate to "Brown is the New Green"
here are a few plant options that are currently blooming
which might change your perceptions...

All images above were photographed in Southern California
during the summer and represent a mixture of native species,
Mediterraneans, Australians, succulents and edibles -
limiting the combinations only to each gardener's imagination.

A New Year

Ended the old year by visiting the Craft and Folk Art Museum
yesterday to catch Clare Graham's jaw-dropping exhibit
and was gleefully tickled when the docent mentioned that
"photography is encouraged"...

Well, you don't have to tell me twice!
Here are a choice few of the 200 images I came away with -

Show runs through Sunday, January 4.
I'm going to try to go again.

New Web Gallery

Just up-dated the site with the addition of a new gallery
comprised of my "Green Waste" series of photos.

I began documenting common yard cuttings when I noticed
their fragile beauty as they lay awaiting disposal.

This led to my contemplation of society's fleeting appreciation
of beauty in general, and on a global scale, of nature itself...
and at what point we consider it acceptable to degrade
the planet's resources to nothing more than suburban waste.

Burbank Secret Art Show - Call for Entries

9/3/2014

It's (almost) that time again... the Burbank Arts for All foundation
is calling for donations to their second annual "Secret Art Show".

Here is what I donated last year:
Picture
It was set of 4" x 6" postcards of scenes around town
that could be viewed individually, or in combination as shown above.
Happy to say all 4 pieces were sold!

Now I just need to come up with something different for this year...

    As I See It...

I spend a lot of time on the road and always have a camera with me - hoping to be ready when a serendipitous moment presents itself.

Here you will find some of the day to day things that
may influence my art, news about projects I'm currently working on, as well as occasional musings on art, life and random visual non-sequiturs.
